Warm January afternoon
On arrival most surfers were on the shore, wind had just subsided, so doubt about witch sail to rig.
Choose the Freestylewave 102 with Duke 5.9, larger than most had rigged.
If you have trouble walking into the water, you know that the sail is too big. About 4 times on the shore increase the sail trim. Sail was just too big. There were nice waves to jump and sometimes also a bit of waveriding. After about half an hour, the wind decreased considerably. Sail completely loose, and then sometimes I could still get planing, but most of the time it was bobbing. So to the shore to get other equipment.
Doubted about taking a larger sail, however, the wind was predicted to increase. Took the iSonic 101, due to the longer planing surface it planes better, especially by wind holes.
One of the disadvantages of a wave sail on the iSonic: I always have to look for the right trim. But once found and with the wind increasing, the board runs free over the waves and therefore quick. Was clearly faster than all the other surfers on the water (there were no slalom sets on the water.)
Wind died off again and eventually bobbing to the shore and stopped.
Was lovely temperature, unfortunately no sun, wind was worse than hoped, but still nice sailing

Board: | JP Freestyle Wave 102 Pro - MFC Freewave 29cm
Sail: | North Duke 5.9 - North Platinum 430 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
At first the sail was too big, really more then max trimmed, I could sail with it, but only between the gusts I could also jibe and jump with it. After the wind subsided, trimt the sai to below minimal and I could sometimes plane in really minimal wind. |

Board: | Starboard iSonic 101 - Busca Slalom 34cm
Sail: | North Duke 5.9 - North Platinum 430 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
At first less than minimum trim in the sail, with the iSonic 101 I can more easily get planing and plane through wind holes. Trim of the sail has to be quite different, harnesslines back and longer, boom even higher. In the minimal wind, the board didn't really ride free. Wind rose again quickly after a while. Sail again on maximum trim and then board runs evenly looser and faster. Was clearly much faster now than the other surfers on the water. (No slalom surfers) |
