Slalom training in the rain
Today there was slalom training on Kabbelaarsbank, but with a lot of wind for predicted and a change for a competition day on Sunday, I decided to not to go training, safe some energy. After a few heavy weeks at work I also didn't feel full of energy.
Choose to go sailing Jurjen at Herkingen good place for training gybes.
The parking space at Herkingen was already half under water, unfortunately.

Wind seemed less then predicted. Took the iSonic 101 with Warp 7.0. Started with the Boss 37.5 fin.

In the beginning the wind was minimal, outhaul completely loose. steadily the wind picked up, some hard gusts.
The Boss gibes really good. In the flatter water it is really easy to do a good quick gybe, was able to plane through all of them.
In the chop/waves gybing also was good, the fin seems to want to take the board through the curve. Only in the very hard gusts after a downwind run through the chop it had to really commit. All in all, gybing was good with the Boss.
We also did some runs behind the wall of Herkingen. I was not going for pure speed runs, I also tried to train as much as possible over the chop. Only last part, just before the gybe I would go close to the wall, followed by a laydown gybe. Focused on getting my timing write, with the higher speed, the sail-shift needs to happen at another moment. (Do you do it too early and you will back wind the sail, the sail pushes you back because you go faster then the wind.)

Had a good training. Boss gives a lot of confidence and control. Would like to test a 36 cm.
Pity of the rain all day.

Herkingen

11:00 3.5 hour Wind: SW 16/24 kts
Board: Starboard iSonic 101 - Boss 4.21 S- 37,5cm
Sail: North Warp F2009 7.0 - North Platinum(09) 460cm - HPL Carbon Race 200-285
The Boss 37.5cm works really well, boards almost jibes on its own. Board seems easier to carve than with other fins. In the harder gusts a bit much pressure on my back foot, but no floating front foot. 1 a 2 cm smaller would perhaps be even better. Also downwind over chop the fin gives a lot of control and never any spinouts.
