Gustsy and therefore though afternoon at sea
For today strong winds predicted, SW, should be a beautiful day at sea.
Actually wanted to grab the 4.7, it didn't seem that extreme. But most other surfers were sailing a size smaller.
So also rigged the 4.2 rigged, nice moment for a good testing session with the Tri-Wave 89.

Tri-Wave 89 with Banzai 4.2 and MFC 19/12cm
Near the beach already enough wind to get planing. Board sailed a lot better than last time. Stance is better, narrower and the DaKine Core Countours are also a lot nicer then the standard footstraps.
At first minimal wind for the 4.2, upper outhaul eye. A lot of nice waveriding from the start. More volume than the FSW 84, which makes it more forgiving when wave riding. Soon I was turning the board vertically back-side against golf. And sometimes almost all the way down vertically: RADICAL! Tried frontside a few times, but it didn't quite work out. Wind increase slowly, sail slowly more trim. Wind actually became more gusty. Gust strong, but in the wind holes the 4.2 remained minimal.
During the rising tide, as is often, the water became very chaotic, looking for nice waves to jump or to ride. Sometimes you suddenly find a steep high wave and you jump unexpectedly higher than expected: High backloop, landed on my side in the water, head with ear first: beep, this luckily stopt quickly. Need to buy me some earplugs.
I actually was getting upwind too easily all the time, so maybe try a little smaller fins, the Tri-wave standard comes with 17/11cm, I was sailing 19/12 with a 4.2 which is high wind for the Tri-wave 89.

Tri-Wave 89 with Banzai 4.2 and MFC 19/10cm
It was high tide, then the sea always calms down, wind also seemed to decrease slightly, but board also seemed to have a little more control.
Were fewer waves to jump or ride.

It was cold, unfortunately no sun. Wind was strong an very gusty, but in between quite soft, so a smaller sail could not have worked. During incoming tide it was a bit chaotic and difficult. Satisfied with the Tri-Wave 89, maybe a bit big for the 4.2.

12:30 2 hour Wind: SW
Board: Fanatic Tri-Wave 89 - MFC TF RTM 19cm/MFC TF 2x12cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - Goya 90% 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
First time well powered with the Tri-Wave, better fins, better footstraps that were also better adjusted: narrower stance.
In the beginning sail on minimum trim, but that soon became maximum, and over maximum. In the gusts, it was more tricky. Usually the board sailed well, only during rising tide, with more chaos waves it was a bit more difficult. No spinouts, fins didn't feel too big, but I got upwind far too easily. Jumping went well. A lot of wave riding, board turns nicely and I sometimes got the board nicely vertical against the wave and also vertically back down. Couple of front-side attempts, that went well a couple of times.
A 4.2 is the lower limit for the 89, and that was noticeable in the stronger gusts, then it sometimes seemed a bit large, but that could also be the fins, board normally comes with 18/12cm and I sailed with 19/12cm. So time to try something smaller.

With the 10cm thrusters it seemed better, but water was also calmer (high tide had past) and wind also less strong, so difficult to compare. Even more than enough fin surface to get upwind, even with less pressure in the sail. Bit of back-side waveriding and jumping, but were clearly fewer waves.
