origin
Bought 2nd hand over the Internet in July 2016
Had problems with low wind planning in the last few games with the iSonic 127 and the R-Type 9.5. The rules for slalom competitions seem to be slowly becoming allowed to 90cm boards as well. So I wanted to try the famous JP Super Lightwind 90.
They're still hard to come by second hand. Every time one came up for sale I was late, and the price wasn't wrong either.
Mini Formula
The SLW looks like a mini formula, and that's how it sails. where the GT85 was much more of a big slalom, more round outline, the JP is much straighter. So more surface area and wider in the back. This allows you to sail longer fins, so you can plan and pump much better.
Unnecessary for slalom competitions
My conclusion after a few days of sailing on it of which 2 days slalom training in minimal conditions: Not necessary for competitions.
If I don't get the iSonic 127 pumped into plane with Daytona 9.0, the races won't go on for a long time.
Maybe if you weigh over 100+ kg it can be useful because you are tied to the same 9.5 max sail size as much lighter surfers.
But for me, I don't win enough. And if I have to choose between an 85cm slalom (iSonic) or this board, I take the iSonic because when the wind is blowing it is much easier and shorter to get the buoys. And for a 4-2 format competition I can register the iSonic 127 to sail the 8.0 and 9.0, that would never be competitive with the SLW, an 8.0.
Sold
So he goes on sale, and since they're very much wanted, he was gone soon.
sail
According to JP, the ideal sailing size is > 7.5. That seems to me to be on the small side. For me, it was meant to be a light weather alternative to the iSonic 127. So the S-Type 9.5 and Daytona 9.0 sailed on it.
Fins
The Deboichet 56cm seemed too small. I thought the R12 66cm was too big. Last couple of times the Select S11 61cm sailed under it, that seemed pretty good. With the Daytona 9.0 maybe even on the big side.
