Winter storm
Prediction for stormy winds! 30 to 50 knots with a lot of rain. In the morning: blue skies.
First had to do some Carnival shopping, so was late in Zeeland.
JP Single Thruster Pro 3.7 75 with Voodoo, MFC K2 22 cm + K4 Shark 7 cm
Doubted between 4.2 and 3.7. Wind seemed vere strong in the gust, but on the shore, it did not feel that strong. Decided to go for the 3.7, due to the hard gusts.
First few meters too little wind, boards was sinking. Bit further out, better winds: planing. Sails was not trimmed very well: Increased boom high, harness lines longer, outhaul looser, bit more downhaul. That made a huge difference. In the wind holes, I could not get planing. In the hardest gusts, sail was just too big. But overall perfect.
Bit of jumping. Jibes took a bit of getting used to the small boardje. But after some practice I could make some of them planing again.
Sailed untill I was getting tired. Last hour I was almost alone on the water.
Nice afternoon. Certainly not cold. Always love a stormy day.

First time with the Enigma Wave boom, boom is really thin, I need to get used to it, no problems, no tired hands. Only in the hardest guststhe sail was too big, but for the rest, perfect size. Control was good, in the beginning had to find the correct trim, but then setups was perfect. Fins not too big. Sail trim: downhaul normal, outhaul less the minimum (negative). |
