NK Slalom-Day 2
Again a cold day, wind would get weaker during the day.
I didn't really fancy it, cold doesn't really make it fun.
On the way to Stavoren the thermometer indicated: 5 degrees
Elimination 3:
Skipped the prelimanairy round, it really felt too cold, and would still be a C-final.
When the 3rd heat of the elimination was starting, I only started rigging.
iSonic 117 with Warp 8.0 and SL-X 43cm
First time with the SL-X 43cm. Did a couple of runs and some tuning to get the set running nicely.
Only in the waves in the starting area not pleasant yet, but on the race couse itself controle and fast.
C-final attempt 1:
With difficulty in got planing and get to the start area, just before the start the wind dropped away, I whent over the startline, not planing, wind turned to off-shore.
After 45 minutes slogging upwind, I ended back at the start boat. Wind returned and turned back to the good direction, 1 run and was back on shore.
C-final attempt 2:
Just back on shore: We start again with the C-Finale: Too little time to eat and warm up, 10 minutes before the start there is a big rain shower coming over the start area.
So wind increased considerably, and probably it would quickly decrease or even go away again.
7.0 not rigged, not failing like sailing in the rain or overpowered, I was not the only one, the C-final was sailed by only 7 of the 18 man.
Elimination 4:
Many surfers didn't feel like it anymore. Heat 1 and 2 went on the water, but before the start procedure was over the wind dropped again and we were released, end of day!
A day like today lets you doubt why you are competing. Hours of waiting in the cold, sailing is no fune. Going free sailing you have a few hours of fun and a good day.
This weekend made it clear that I have to sail more with slalom gear, to train more if I really want to do this again. Timing of my watch alone never went well.
No, this cold doesn't make racing fun.
Stavoren
13:00 | 1.5 hour | Wind: N |
---|---|---|
Board: | Starboard iSonic 117 - Sonntag SL-X 43cm | |
Sail: | North Warp F2010 8.0 - North Platinum(13) 490cm - HPL Carbon Race 200-285 | |
First time with the SL-X 43cm. Took a couple of runs and some trimming to find a good trim, not perfect yet. Fin lets the board run freely and on the its rail. In the waves at the starting area still not really nice. Unfortunately the wind dropped to nothing and floated bach to shore. |
