First cold surf day of this winter
All week the forecast for Saturday looked very promising: SW 25 to 35 knots. On Friday night the prediction was still SW 18 to 25, turning west. Unfortunately, the wind ended up being SSW, but a bit stronger than predicted, but because of the direction the wind on the dam is a lot less.
I hoped to test the Tri-Wave 89 I had bought this week. .5.3 should be possible.

Wondered if I could get planing. Everyone was change to a larger sail when I got to the water edge, but still wanted to try the Tri-Wave.
Had tget away from the beach to get more pressure in the sail, bit downwind, little pumping and I was planing. Bit getting used to the posture and how the board turned etc. First few jibes didn't go perfect, but managed to plane a few anyway. No waves for wave riding, so there's not much to say about that. Could find a few small waves for a chop-hop. That went pretty well. Unfortunately, with the 5.3 I really needed to use the gust to get planing: a lot of bobbing. Wind was not predicted to increase, so went to the beach for the FSW 102 with 6.0.

Doubted to immediately rig the 6.0 or first try the 5.3.
Almost no wind near the beach, but a little further out more pressure, a few pumps and I could get planing. The FSW 102 planes so easily, almost everyone had a bigger sail. No waves, just sometimes something for little chop-hopping. Stayed a lot far away from the beach because the wind was better there. Closer to the beach it was almost always bobbing with the 5.3. With the rising tide and in the harder gusts, waves slowly came. So at the end I could do a couple back-side wave rides, but never more than 1 hit. Also more and more jumping, sometimes even on both sides.

Unfortunately, the wind direction was not as predicted, so there was also less wind. In retrospect, the 6.0 would have been better, but I enjoyed the sailing.
Was first time the weather was really cold, cap and gloves were needed.

Present: Jurjen

12:30 0.5 hour Wind: S/SW
Board: Fanatic Tri-Wave 89 - Select X1 21cm/MFC TF (16) 2x12cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 5.3 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
First time on my Tri-Wave 89. 5.3 minimum trimmed. Could plane half the time. Stance is fairly wide, as on many modern waveboards.
Could get upwind reasonably well. Once planing, the board didn't feel very loose. No waves, so not really being able to ride waves. Made a few little chop-hops, which went pretty well.
13:00 2.5 hour Wind: S/SW
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 102 Pro - Makani Kaku 26cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 5.3 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Sail completely minimally trimmed. Sometimes well powered, sometimes minimal or not even planing. Towards the end the tide came in and with that there were also a few waves to jump and waveride, but not very much. Chop-hops went very well as always with the FSW 102.
