Unexpected storm
Prediction was 30+ knots, that's already a lot, but it ended up being 40 knots.
Plan was to go the Blokkendam, but there everyone just went off the water, inpossible to sail in this wind. (afterwards the wind graph showed gust of over 50 + knots)
So we went to Kabbelaarsbank.

Wind didn't seem that hard. Normally with a storm there is a lot of whitewater blowing around, spray everywhere, but there was non of that.
I still listened to the tips: rig the smallest: Voodoo. While rigging, a gust blow my 3.7 sail right out of my hands.
Fortunately a German was able to catch it before the sail could damage a car, he was so nice to help with rigging: Yes, it's a storm.

Sailed all of the afternoon with the JP Single Thruster Pro 75 and Voodoo 3.7. Tried Different fin combinations.
Wind was really hard in the gusts, too hard to sail. Water near the shore was very nasty chop.
More towards the Surf center and in the deep there were more waves, easier to sail, it was possible to jump and if the wind was a bit less: wave riding.
Did some very nice high jumps, really floaty. Some didn't go very well, jumping in a gust, in the air pressure on wrong side of the sail: hard back down into the water.

Tried Many different fin combinations:
Select X1 21cm with Makani 10cm and 8cm thrusters
With the 10cm thrusters top, a lot of control and grip, fins didn't feel too big. The swapped the 10cm for the 8cm, more spinouts, less secure.

Angulo 9.0 with Makani 8cm and K4 7cm Shark thrusters
Both thrusters work well with the Angulo 9.0. But maybe the Angulo is so big that it would work even without a thruster.
Unfortunately that did not try that. I have idea that those Makani 8cm can be sold, does not add anything to the the Sharks, advantage is that the Sharks are Asymmetric.

I had a discussion with Jurjen about fin setup. He favors trifin, center fin as small as possible. I only like that in good waves, not in messy chop.
In messy chop I prefer a longer center fin with smaller thrusters or even single fin. For me, that works better, the lift of the larger center fin lifts the board better over the chop.
And an additional advantage. the longer center fin has stay more in the water when the board looses contact with the water.
Jurjen prefers the trifin, that keeps the board more in the water, his philosophy: with the board in the water small chop has less influence on the board.
And with the board more in the water, the speed is less and the board does not come out of the water all the time, less change of a spin-out.
So I also tried a trifin setup.

K4 Stubby 14cm and 18cm with 12cm Ezzy Assymetric thrusters
With the 14cm fin no grip at all, board lay more transverse in the water than there straight wanted, had to sail so gently, not nice with an overpowered 3.7.
With the 18cm was pretty good, grip, could sail, running very short, was already tired, still had to go to a party, so stopped.
Maybe next time try even bigger thruster fins, 13.5 cm MUF?

Wind was too strong for real good surfing. Anything above the 40 knots is more survival than surfing. Between 30 and 40 knots is pretty good to sail.
Nice to test different fins, very instructive.

Kabbelaarsbank

Present: Jurjen, Marius (SurfinTwin)

13:30 0.5 hour Wind: SW 32/45 kts
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - Select X1 21cm/Makani Walu 2x10cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
Sail on the big side, really stormy. X1 21cm with Makani 10cm works well, control, no spin-outs. Little bit of jumping. Jibes? In this storm almost impossible.
14:00 0.25 hour Wind: SW 32/45 kts
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - Select X1 21cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
The 8cm Makani in combination with the X1 21cm is not enough surface area: regular spinouts.
14:15 0.5 hour Wind: SW 32/45 kts
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - Angulo Wave 23cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
Sail too big, especially in the hardest gusts. The fins didn't feel too big. Much grip. Jumps easily.
14:45 0.5 hour Wind: SW 32/45 kts
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - Angulo Wave 23cm/K4 Ezzy Shark 2x7cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
Sail too big, especially in the hardest gusts. I could not feel a difference between the Makani 8cm and these Shark 7cm. Both work really well. Lots of grip. Jump Easy, board turns equally well.
15:15 0.25 hour Wind: SW
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - K4 Stubby 14cm/K4 Ezzy Asymmetric 2x12cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
No, this does not work. No grip, only with all the pressure on my front foot I could sail straight lines. With a bit of pressure on my back foot board slipped away. Had too sail way to cautious, which is not possible in overpower conditions.
15:30 0.25 hour Wind: SW
Board: JP Single Thruster 75 Pro - K4 Stubby 18cm/K4 Ezzy Asymmetric 2x12cm
Sail: North Voodoo 3.7 - North XC65 380cm - Severne Enigma 150-200
Sail too big, especially in the hardest gusts. With the 18cm I did have grip, much more then with the 14cm. Could sail cross wind. Still a bit cautious through the roughest chop. Board turns a lot shorter than with larger center vin and smaller thrusters. But I prefer the larger center fin.
