Surfing before and after the Rain
A lot of rain predicted for the whole afternoon, so started early, to sail before the rain began.
Wind was not as strong as preticted. On the shore everyone was rigging 6.3 to 7.0, which you would expect with the predicted 16+ knots wind.
However, there did no seem to be that much wind. So I rigged the S-Type SL 8.3, this time with the North constant-taper 490cm mast.

Really a day you are happy with an outhaul trim. Lots of variation in the wind, did a lot of trimming. Also used the Power XT a lot to adjust the downhaul.
I could always plane. Water was often very flat, so very easy surfing.
Sailed untill to the showers came.
After the showers, went surfing again. This time used my other North 490: Drop-shape.

Was nice to sail until the wind really died. Wind was minimal, but the 8.3 planed early.
Its a bit crazy to go surfing twice in one day. But the heavy rain showers in the afternoon were really not good to surf in.
And if you have a cabin at Kabbelaarsbank, it can be done easily.

Board: | Starboard iSonic 117 - Busca Slalom 46cm
Sail: | North S-Type SL 8.3 - North Platinum(13) 490cm - HPL Carbon Race 200-285
Used the constant- taper 490 mast. In terms of pressure on the lower camber better. Wind varied a lot, used minimum to max trim. At max trim (or just over) the sail starts to rotate harder. Maybe too much batten tension, still need to fine-tuning it. Busca worked well, never too big and board almost always walked freely, only in the lightest wind did not work. Getting upwind was only good in the harder gusts. |

Minimum trim in S-Type SL. The 490 drop shape feels slightly better, also seems to rotate better. On the beach also tested with max downhaul, even then the sail just rotates really good. Fin did work, but I think it was a bit small for so little wind. In the harder gusts it worked better. |
