Unexpected wind: all afternoon
Prediction was wind until 14:00 and then decreasing. So wanted to get to Zeeland on time, that didn't really work out.
Menno was using 7.0 slalom, but water didn't look like it wind was that strong. I would have taken my 7.3 S-Type, but have taken a little smaller:
iSonic 101 with E-Type 6.6 and Busca 34cm
From the shore, I could plane almost immediately. A little further from the shore immediately nice power in the sail. Set sailed nicely. I could not keep up with Menno with his slalom sail, but the difference was amll. Try to improve the trim a little bit more. Slightly more downhaul, mast foot slightly backwards. Speed went up a bit, but winds also increased. Set was pretty fast, but still could not keep up with Menno, but the difference was smaller. Time for bigger changes: SL-X 34cm for the first time.
iSonic 101 with E-Type 6.6 and SL-X 34cm
Fin felt good in itself, but during changing the fin the wind had not diminished, it had become even more. So sail really too big now, couldn't really close the sail anymore. So the fin could not test properly anymore, so soon back to the side. for smaller sail.
FSW 102 with Banzai 5.3 and Makani 26cm
If the 6.6 is too big, the 6.0 is probably also too big, so took the 5.3. First time rigging the sail, always fun. Battens trimmed pretty well, almost no tuning needed.
Step up: plane, first wave jump. Adjusted the harnessline a bit, boom slightly higher and set worked well. Planing jibes also quickly went well. Sail feels so much lighter than the 6.6, yes, that's because the 5.3 is much smaller, but also a bar batten less helps. Sail feels very playful in the hand. You just want to jump and play with the set. Day 3 in a row, so I was empty.
Was good, more wind than predicted, it did not decrease, but actually increased. Nice bit of freeriding. After three days I was getting really tired, it was a good weekend.

Set works well, board ran nicely loose and fast. Ended with the 6.6 trimmed over maximum. Jibes delicious, often planing through them. Made a few small jumps. Especially with so much power, the Busca is just a bit on the big side, maybe should look for a smaller carbon slalom fin. |

First time with the Sonntag SL-X 34cm. The board feels more stable over chop, but had the feeling the board was not running very loose. Sail was too big, so I couldn't really close it anymore. This fin, too, felt just a bit too big. Unfortunately, things went wrong at the end. When slowing down near the shore, the fin hit a rock: tip broken. |

First time with the Banzai 5.3, trim was found quickly. Water was flat with the well-known "De Punt" chop. So nice chop-hopping. Sail feels so light, especially comparing it to a maxed out E-Type 6.6. Jibes really nice, could do a lot of planing jibes. Set works well. |
