Nice start to the year
Tail of storm Henk, should stay dry for most of the afternoon.
Upon arrival, the wind had just turned and decreased slightly. Doubted between the 6.0 and 5.3. Just before I was going to rig my sail, the wind was back: 5.3
Banzai 5.3 on the One 95 with MFC 25/8 thrusters
Set worked well. Sail soon had to be on max trim. It was often very good, and sometimes even a bit large. Here and there a small wave to jump. Wind was WSW, so mainly along the beach. A bit more away from the dunes to have enough wind. Because of the direction you could find waves on both sides to jump. In general, the water was very flat, so jibing was easy: a lot of planing jibes. Because of the direction, font-side wave riding was not really possible. Back-side wave riding was good, a few times even 2 good hits on one wave. The Goya One turns vertically really well, even with the 25cm center.
Gert-Jan sailed behind me to film me. Gert-Jan often sails close behind everyone . At one point I see a nice wave, guessed that Gert-Jan is behind me and I am going towards the wind. I jump and fall down like a log: no more wind in my sail. I see that I almost hit Gert-Jan. Oops, that was really too close, irresponsible. Very happy that iwe ended up not hitting each other. Be a little more careful next time.
Wind slowly became less and less. Minimum trim in the sail and still could plane almost all the time. Around 2pm a very dark rain cloud arrived. 2 hours of top sailing. Time to stop. During rigging it started to rain heavily.
Nice start of the year. Nice session, too bad there were so few waves.

Water was quite flat, so I opted for the MFC 25/8 Thrusters to make the board more freemove. That was a good choice, especially the 2nd hour there were almost no more waves. Board ran wonderfully free and fast. Jumps great. Back-side wave riding went well. Sail was the right size, often a bit big, later the wind decreased and ended with minimum trim. At the end, getting upwind was a bit more difficult. |
