Strong winds with tricky waves
The whole week SW wind predicted, but as was the last weekends: Wind ended up being South again.
There were a lot of different sails on the beach, from 4.0 to 6.0. Wind apparently varied a lot, many surfers were near the beach were not even planing.

FSW 102 with Ice 5.3 and Makani 26cm
Behind the dam, almost no wind, so could not get planing. Once further out, more wind, increased the trim, but that was not even enough, definitely too much wind. Tried a few legs, but was not easy sailing. Some waveriding, but not easy with so much power in your hands. Closer to the shore behind the dam it went a lot better, but there it was a lot more boring: flat water.

Time for something smaller, doubt about 4.7 or 4.2? If the 5.3 with max trim is already much too large, the 4.7 will also be big, then maybe the 4.2 at minimum trim.

FSW 84 with Ice 4.2 and K4 Rockets 18/12cm
Behind the dam bit tricky almost no wind so hard to keep a float, the 4.2 was really too small, also in the open wind the 4.2 was on the small side. With less trim in the 4.2, I was able to plane all the time. With rising time, the waves also came, and the wind also increasing considerably. Soon more trim in the 4.2, due to the south wind the waves were almost perpendicular to the direction of sailing, but short, close to each other and steep, thus tricky to sail over de waves. Also jumping is not that easy because you can not put your board against the waves properly, only option: go downwind and then just before the wave turn the board against the wave, and with the speed you can jump very high. Back to shore there were sometimes really nice waves and I could often ride several waves consecutively. Sailed until the 4.2 with maximum trim was too large.
Because the wind was so southern, and behind the dam less wind. the AHD 75 liter was not an option, but it certainly had given more control and would have been a lot easier sailing.

Stamina is not on par yet, and in these circumstances it was heavy sailing.
Nice to have a lot of wind again, hopefully soon a good SW again instead of S wind.

14:00 0.5 hour Wind: S 18/28 kts
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 102 Pro - Makani Kaku 26cm
Sail: North Ice 5.3 - North Platinum 400cm - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Too big, only near shore, behind the dam it was reasonable ok, but in the open wind it was really too big. Even with more than maximum trim, it did only work in the windholes.
14:45 1.5 hour Wind: S 28/42 kts
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 84 Pro - MFC Freewave (06) 21cm/Makani Walu 2x10cm
Sail: North Ice 4.2 - North Platinum 370cm - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
In the beginning, behind the dam: too small. In the open wind with minimum trim it worked well. Wind rose rapidly, eventually with max trim, the 4.2 was too big. Waves were short, steep and almost perpendicular to the sailing direction, difficult to sail. On the way in, sometimes really nice waveriding. Especially when the wind was not so extreme the set worked very fine. Sometimes nice jumping.
