Warm gusty afternoon
Wind was expected to increase considerably in the afternoon, with heavy showers in the morning, so aimed to be on the dam around 1:30 p.m.
On arrival a shower passed over and it hardly seemed to be any wind. Wait for the shower to pass before going out of the car to see what to rig.
Wind wasn't there yet. So slowly put on the wetsuit and rigged my kit. Wind increased a lot while I was rigging.

FSW 84 with Banzai 4.2 and 22.5/10cm fins
Because the wind had not yet materialized yet and I doubted about rigging the 4.7 I choose the 22.5cm center fin. In the beginning, that was definitely good. Planed earlier, ran better upwind. But when the wind increased the 19cm was definitely better. Used the CAAS mast for the first time, expected that the wind would increase even further and I would like to rig the 3.7. In the beginning I had doubts about the CAAS mast, sail did not feel stable. But a little more downhaul and a little less outhaul and sail suddenly worked very well and stable.
After a few runs quickly to the shore, I had lycra under my winter wetsuit, but with 19 degrees that was way too warm, my 4/3 suit would have been much better. So removed the lycra, which was better, but still warm.
Wind direction was south, so as always not the best conditions at the Blokkendam, going out, searching for nice waves to jump and coming back in some waves for nice back-wind wave riding. Sailed until the fins really started to feel too big.

FSW 84 with Banzai 4.2 and 19/10cm fins
Sometimes brilliant, sometimes spinouts. As long as water wasn't too chaotic it was very good, but as there was a lot of wind chop on not so smooth waves it became tricky and careful sailing.
This made me more cautious and that is more tiring. Just to test, took the longer center fin again, but with shorter thrusters.

FSW 84 with Banzai 4.2 and 22.5/8cm fins
Wind had increased even more, sail more trim. Waves slowly also got higher but not necessarily better. Sometimes some steep wave to jump, but those were close to each other and almost at cross on the sailing direction, so tricky to get a good hit. Back to the beach it was pretty good wave riding. In the hard gusts on the not so smooth water the larger center fin was clearly easier to sail.
Wind slowly turned to SW, jumping was often possible in both directions.
Sailed until I was completely empty.

Nice afternoon, lovely sailing. Pretty good conditions, warm, just the wind direction not perfect and therefore gusty.

Blokkendam

14:15 1 hour Wind: S 20/32 kts
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 84 Pro - MFC Freewave 22,5cm/Makani Walu 2x10cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - CAAS Extreme Wave FT 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
First time with the CAAS mast.
At first minimal, but wind quickly improved. At first, the sail was not stable. Bit more outhaul and bit less downhaul solved that.
Board ran nicely, turned nicely, but ran easily upwind and in hardest gusts also a bit fast. Some really nice wave rides, sometimes from one wave to the other. Only back-side today.
15:15 1 hour Wind: S 24/45 kts
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 84 Pro - MFC TF RTM 19cm/Makani Walu 2x10cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - CAAS Extreme Wave FT 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
A lot more slippery than with the 22.5cm center fin. Clearly had to sail more over my front foot. Usually good, but if water was rougher or wind gustier not so nice. Wave riding nice.
16:15 1 hour Wind: S/SW 24/45 kts
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 84 Pro - MFC Freewave 22,5cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - CAAS Extreme Wave FT 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
Longer center fin with smaller thrusters worked better on the rougher water. Board runs better over it and can sail more on my back foot, which is a lot nicer if you have to be able to cope with vert strong gusts every now and then. Wave riding still good. Waves were also higher, but difficult to jump.
