Briljant day at the Brouwersdam
Very good wind forecast and also warm for the time of year.
Upon arrival, the temperature was disappointing, for the forecast, but with 13 degrees warm enough to sail without a cap and gloves.
Wind was also a bit disappointing, more was predicted, but it still had to be enough for 4.7 and that's never a bad thing.
Banzai 4.7 on the Wave Slate 96 with K4 16/10 quad fins
Wind seemed to be quite southerly so there was a chance of side-shore wave riding. So I took the Wave Slate, although the water still seemed fairly flat. Waves were disappointing and were certainly not the side-shore I had hoped for. But maybe that will change. Unfortunately, the waves only got less. In itself, the Slate sailed quite well on the flatter water. Board really makes the best of the little waves that are there. Back-side went nice, better than the last couple of times. Tried front-side, sometimes went really well. I did nottice my front footstrap seemed to be too big. On the beach I had broken off: another Dakine Core Contour. I had to replace it, so I might as well grab the One 95 right away.
Banzai 4.7 on the Goya One 95 with MFC 21/11 thursters
Already on the beach the wind seemed stronger, and that was right: planed immediately. Back to the beach and increase the trim of the 4.7. And that did that a couple of times. Wind clearly increased considerably. To the outside I quickly found a few good waves to jump, but also heading back in there were good waves for jumping. My favorite side, so much nicer floating. A bit of wave riding, but then you really notice that the One 95 is more freewave, just doesn't turn as tight. Waves finally got higher and more fun too. Time to get back on the Slate. not that I didn't have fun with the One.

Enjoyable right away. upwind when heading out and then wave riding as much as possible heading in. Especially a lot of back-side wave riding, wind was too on-shore for front-side. The attempts I made failed because the wind was also too strong to sail clew-first on the wave. But I didn't have any less fun with it. Because the wind was so strong and because of all the wave riding, I got tired quickly. Sometimes a short rest and back on the water. But my energy ran out quickly. Time to stop.
Another 4 seals were released, went to have a look.
Not very cold, no cap or gloves needed. Lots of sun. Especially at the end there are also nice waves.

Wind a little less than expected, but with the Banzai 4.7 on minimum trim I could always plane. In the beginning there were a few waves, but after that hardly any waves for almost an hour. Hesitated to take the One 95. But I was still sailing quite nicely. Especially on the waves that I could find. Couple of times nice front-side wave riding. Hardly any jumping, mostly a bit of chop-hopping. Fins worked well, no spinouts, the Flex fins seem to hold grip almost always in chop as well. |

Board had good control, no spinouts. Winds picked up quickly, so sail went from minimum trim all the way to maximum trim and over it within 10 minutes. Wave riding was good, but you do notice that the Wave Slate turns much easier and is more forgiving if you don't do it very well. Jumping wonderful. Possible on both sides. With the right foot forward for nice floaty jumps. |

More wind, fins not too big. Went upwind well. Waveriding fun. Especially a lot of back-side wave riding. This time less trouble with the top-turn. Lovely vertical up and down again. Tried front-side a few times, but the wind was too on-shore and too strong so that didn't really work. |
