Start of the 2022 season
Still warm weather, and a lot of wind predicted. Surfing on day 2 of the new year. Never sailed this early in the year.
Jeroen also went surfing, so joined him at Kabbelaarsbank.

Strong wind predicted, already strong wind when I arrived: 4.2, but doubted which board to take.

Goya One 95 with Banzai 4.2 and MFC 10/19cm
To be on the safe side, I took the Goya 95, never sailed with a 4.2 on the 95. Good test.
Directly planing, control was good, didn't expect to have so much control. Water was also very flat.
Lots of chop-hopping. With the 19/10 fins it was a bit boring on the flat water. When Jeroen had gone to the shore, I also went to grab a larger fin with smaller thrusters

Goya One 95 with Banzai 4.2 and MFC Freewave 22,5cm and 8cm thrusters
Wind much less. In the gusts clearly better fins for flat water. Board ran a lot looser. Unfortunately, that only lasted a short while.

FSW 102 with Banzai 5.3 and MFC 24cm
Did a lot of long runs together with Jeroen. Wind was extremely gusty, twisted. Usually you came back to the shore in a completely different place than where you had started. Very happy with the Banzai 5.3 on the FSW 102. Could actually always plane. Set never really too big, could almost always plane in the lulls. Upwind was good, only in the wind holes I had to plane on my toes. Sailed until the wind died, I stopped after some bobbing.

It was very gusty, wind turned all the time. Pretty good choice in terms of sets.
Nice afternoon, nice sailing: good start of the year.

Kabbelaarsbank

Present: Jeroen

12:30 0.5 hour Wind: SW
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC TF RTM 19cm/MFC TF 2x10cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - Goya Ninety Pro 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
First time with 4.2 on the Goya One 95. The 95 with 4.2 went very well, flat water and not overpowered with the 4.2 will have helped. In the wind holes the 95 liters helped very well. Board only got upwind by sailing over the front foot. In the waves still quite doable, but on flat water you want a board that runs nice and free while going upwind. So time for shorter or no thrusters.
13:00 0.25 hour Wind: SW
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC Freewave 22,5cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 4.2 - Goya Ninety Pro 370 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
When walking into the water, noticed wind had dropped. I was able to get planing twice. The longer center fin with shorter thrusters felt better, bit more free. Too bad wind had dropped.
13:45 1.75 hour Wind: SW
Board: JP Freestyle Wave 102 Pro - MFC On-Shore 24cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 5.3 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Set worked really well. Wide wind range was very useful with the gusty wind.
Good speed, good control, a lot of planing jibes. Very nice chop hopping.
