Very changeable cold day
From 2 to 3 o'clock a lot of wind predicted, unfortunately NW, and not WNW, not perfect for the Grevelingendam, but still the best spot for NW. A lot of rain was predicted, but in the morning it seemed to stay dry for a long time, no showers at all on the North Sea.
It was already quite busy on the Grevelingendam. Wind seemed minimal. Hesitated to rig the 6.0 or 5.3. Planned to rig the 5.3, but before I had a my wetsuit on and put the fins in the board, the wind increased: rigged the 4.7, almost everyone had a larger sail.

Banzai 4.7 on the Goya One 95
Started with the 21cm and 8cm thrusters, smaller thrusters, because we are not at the sea. Very good at first. Set sailed wonderfully, wind was sometimes even hard for the 4.7. Wind direction just a bit too much north the best waves, WNW is better on the Grevelingendam. But because of that a lot of waves to jump on the way back to the beach: Very nice.
Getting upwind when the wind was a little less took some effort, larger fins would be better: switched to the 22.5cm. Unfortunately, the wind was gone for a while, so had to wait until the wind was back. The 22.5cm seemed better, but unfortunately the wind quickly dropped again. Doubted if I should grab a larger kit. First tried the F-Cross 113 with the 4.7.

Banzai 4.7 on the F-Cross 113 with Select 31cm
Not a set I would normally take, 4.7 is really on the small side for the F-Cross 113. I just wanted to know if a bigger board would help. Planed a whole lot easier. However, the wind increased quickly: even with max trim, the 4.7 was much too big. The predicted wind was there: 35+ kts. Time for the small gear.

Banzai 3.7 on the Goya Custom 3 81
I had started sailing on minimum trim, upper outhaul eye. Already in the bay the sail felt too big, quick to medium trim and lower eye. Took some getting used to the small kit, finding the right trim, setting the harnesslines correct. Finally got the set setup well, finally a bit of good feeling: the wind dropped. Could still get planing sometimes, but getting upwind was certainly not possible. To the shore to wait for the wind to come back and larger thrusters: switched the 10 for 12cm. Unfortunately, I had derigged my 4.7, otherwise I could have grabbed it. So had to wait for the wind to come back. The wind came back, but wasn't super hard. Sail on minimum trim and I could usually plane.
Bizarrely, at one point I planed behind Andrea, who really weighs less, but was sailing with a 4.7.
Wind decreased again. No desire to wait or rig a bigger sail.

With only 14/15 degrees it was chilly. A lot of showers and therefore very variable winds.
Often made wrong gear choices: Not my best day.

Grevelingendam

Present: Gert-Jan, Ronald (RonVo)

11:45 1.5 hour Wind: NW
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC Freewave (20) 21cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 4.7 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Set worked well. Board ran free. Jumps nicely. Fins in stronger winds large enough to get upwind. With less wind, a little more effort was needed.
13:45 0.5 hour Wind: NW
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC Freewave 22,5cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 4.7 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Upwind better with the 22,5cm. Set works very well that way. Jumps well, not a lot of waves to ride, but that went well. Unfortunately, the wind was not playing ball, it kept dropping.
14:30 0.25 hour Wind: NW
Board: Patrik F-Cross 113 - Select FX Freecarve 31cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 4.7 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
Even before I was on the water, the wind seemed to increase again. So I sailed only briefly. But impression wasn't bad, board felt big, but certainly not too big.
14:45 0.5 hour Wind: NW
Board: Goya Custom Thruster 81 - MFC TF RTM 18cm/MFC TF 2x10cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 3.7 - Hot Ultra 340 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
First time with my 340cm mast. In the beginning searching for the right trim, wind was extreme. Unfortunately, the wind soon decreased and I bobbed back with minimum trim. First impression was pretty good. Getting upwind seemed not the best.
15:45 1 hour Wind: NW
Board: Goya Custom Thruster 81 - MFC TF RTM 18cm/MFC TF 2x12cm
Sail: Goya Banzai X Pro 3.7 - Hot Ultra 340 - AL360 E3 Carbon 140-200
Wind back for a moment. Bigger thrusters felt better. Unfortunately the wind quickly disappeared. When the wind was there for a while it felt good.
