Gusty, a short period perfect
Good wind has been predicted for the weekend for days. Wind forecast remained, but the temperature was a lot lower. On the way to the water, the car showed 6 degrees, another heavy hailstorm while driving: brrr. Al the way to the water, I thought: I'm not going to surf, it's too cold. However, the sun was shining and the thermometer showed 9 degrees.
Started at the restaurant, parked a bit out of the wind behind the trees.
Jurjen was already on the water with 7.8, who indicated that that was big. My first impression was that 5.3 should be possible. But to be sure, I started with the 6.0 on the F-Cross 113.

Banzai 6.0 on the Patrik 113 with MFC Freewave 32cm
Planing directly from the shore. Wind was strong, sail up and over max trim and then it was often doable. But often the 6.0 was really too big in the strongest gusts. I tried it for a while, but it takes too much energy. So I quickly set up the 4.7. Walk to the water, not foam heads in sight. Menno is in the water, swimming, because the wind is too little for his slalom 7.0 on 80L. So I took the 6.0 again. That was good for a while. After that the wind picked up again and the 6.0 was too big again: I decided to try the 4.7.

Banzai 4.7 on the One 95 with 25/8 thrusters
Once on the water, I was able to get planing with some effort. Wind was disappointing. Had to float back to shore. Wind had already subsided.
So 4.7 is too small, so I'll have to rig up the 5.3.

Banzai 5.3 on the One 95 with 25/8 thrusters
Yes, 5.3 was the size, even though even that was on the large side in some gusts: max trim. Especially from the shore on the edge of the deep water, beautiful waves to jump. In terms of wave riding, the wave direction was just not good, diagonally to the direction of travel. But al in all very nice sailing.
Around 2 o'clock very dark clouds arrived on the horizon. Sailed until Herkingen was invisible due to the rain. To the shore to have a drink and take shelter. However, several heavy showers were coming. Soon the hail came, temperature dropped: time to call it a day.

In the beginning very gusty, then 1.5 an hour of good sailing. Menno and Jurjen have also done a lot of re-rigging.
It wasn't very cold, we sailed almost all the time without mittens. After stopping, the hail came and the temperature dropped quickly. Even with the neoprene jacket on, I had cold hands: brr.

Grevelingendam

Present: Jurjen, Menno (flappie)

11:15 0.5 hour Wind: W
Board: Patrik F-Cross 113 - MFC Freewave 32cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 6.0 - Goya Hunderd Pro 430 - AL360 E3 Carbon 170-230
Set actually too big. After 1 run sail at max trim, soon over max trim: then it was okish. But in the gusts, the 6.0 was clearly too big. After rigging the 4.7 I tried for a bit again because the wind seemed to be gone, but then the wind was back and the 6.0 was too big again. Fin was also too big in the gusts. the 29cm would have been better.
12:00 0.25 hour Wind: W
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC Freewave 25cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 4.7 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
In the beginning it was fine, minimally, but I could plane. However, that was only part of the first run. Float back half the run. 4.7 is not the size for today.
12:30 1.75 hour Wind: W
Board: Goya One 3 Pro 95 - MFC Freewave 25cm/Makani Walu 2x8cm
Sail: Goya Banzai Pro 5.3 - Goya Eightyfive Pro 400 - AL360 E3 Carbon 160-220
5.3 was a bit large. The 5.3 was quickly at max trim, ended with the 5.3 just over max trim. Fins worked well, a bit big in the gusts, but never too big. Board ran nice and loose. It may not turn very tight, but there are no really good waves on the Grevelingendam anyhow. Quite a bit of jumping and back-side wave riding.
